When Life Gives You Lemons

The recent launch of Hopewood’s Pearl Collection was a delightful celebration with my closest friends and family. In honour of the occasion, I decided to host a long lunch - Positano style! Positano is a charming beach town on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, famous for its colourful buildings and spectacular cliffside coastline. The region is also known for its unique charms including pebbled lanes under lush canopies of wisteria and lemon trees. The launch was to evoke the feeling of the Mediterranean and create the perfect backdrop to showcase our exquisite Italian tableware.

The starting point for the table was our Pearl dinner plates, featuring a cut-out scalloped edge; our hand-blown glassware from Murano, and our Mila Maurizi rattan collection. I find the Australian weather creates the perfect climate for outdoor entertaining, which is why I love to combine natural textures such as rattan and raffia. By layering these textures, you incorporate the natural environment, resulting in a relaxed and effortless table setting.

An equally important element of any table setting is the tablecloth; I love to source beautiful fabrics that help create ambience and highlight my tableware. The fabric I used for my Positano lunch is undoubtedly a favourite of mine from the Mark D. Sikes collection with Schumacher.

To complete the lunch, we served sparkling limoncello cocktails. These sharp and refreshing beverages feature a lemon flavoured liquor, popular in the Positano region and are the perfect accompaniment for any outdoor entertaining setting. If you are ever lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit the Amalfi Coast, be sure to try the local limoncello while soaking up the view of the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean!
