Artisans use the traditional corbeille technique to shape soft ribbons of clay, carefully interlacing each strand to build the structure by hand. This particular piece is distinguished by ceramic buttons, sculptural accents that punctuate the form while adding reinforcement and rhythm to the silhouette.

Elevated on a raised base and finished in a glaze, the basket is equally suited to storing seasonal fruits or standing alone as an objet d’art. From initial shaping to final firing, the process spans nearly a month, a slow, deliberate transformation that honours material, time, and tradition.

Meet the Designer

Maison Pichon Uzès is the story of a family of ceramicists, passed down from father to son, and deeply rooted in the South of France. Since 1802, eight generations have shaped the brand’s legacy, preserving their heritage while continuing to innovate in the field of ceramic art.

Their journey began with the discovery of the region’s rich red clay, which inspired their first creations in the 1950s. Today, the family continues to explore the creative potential of earthenware through a nuanced palette of over 25 colours and a vast mould archive dating back to the 19th century, most of which has yet to be used.

Each piece is crafted using traditional methods such as stamping, pressing, and firing, with hours of handwork devoted to the house’s iconic corbeilles tressées—woven basket forms shaped entirely by hand. A living testament to the enduring spirit of craftsmanship, Maison Pichon Uzès remains one of France’s most treasured ceramic maisons.
